The Lady Hornets overcame an early deficit and outscored Belmont 40-17 in the second half to take a 60-48 win over the Lady Cardinals.

The Newton County softball team split a pair of games this past week, suffering their first loss of the season.

The Lady Cougars fell 9-6 to Enterprise on Thursday and bounced back to beat Northeast Lauderdale 19-1 on Friday.

BASEBALL: Generals struggle in opening week on diamond

Newton County Academy got its baseball season kicked off this week but didn’t find much success.

The Generals opened with a 15-5 loss to East Rankin and then dropped a pair of games on Saturday, falling 6-0 to Mize and 12-2 to Puckett.
