I, Coley “Roy” May, hereby announce my candidacy for House of Representatives District 84 as an independent candidate for Newton, Clarke, and Jasper Counties.
I, along with my eight brothers and sisters, was raised in Clarke County “Elwood Community” and all of us graduated from Quitman High School. I am the son of the late BC May and Elsie May. I am married to Natasha Yeager May from Newton, MS, and we have a son Braxton May and a daughter Addyson May.
I reside with my family on a farm outside of Hickory, MS where I raise beef cattle and have a tree farm. We also attend Hickory United Methodist Church.
I am a 1984 Honors Graduate of Quitman High School, and I also attended the University of Southern Mississippi in pre-engineering. Ultimately, I received a Civil Engineering degree from Mississippi State University.
I am a Registered Professional Engineer, and I am a member of the Mississippi Engineering Society and the National Society of Professional Engineers.
After graduating from Mississippi State University, I have been employed with the Mississippi Department of Transportation for 29 years.
I am also the owner of May Auto Sales and owner/partner of May Quick Lube,Tire and Alignment and May Wrecker Service located in Newton, MS. I understand and have dealt with the challenges of starting a small business and dealing with the
bureaucracy and regulations that hinder a business from being productive.
I vow to be a driving force for a stronger economy to bring better paying jobs to Newton, Clarke, and Jasper Counties. I will partner with local Community Colleges and Economic Developmental Partners in order to enhance companies to choose our area to build plants and employee more people.
I am a strong advocate of education and have personally seen the impact it can have on our families and communities. The hard working people of Newton,Clarke, and Jasper Counties deserve to have opportunities for good paying jobs in order to provide for their families.
Consequently, the largest resource we have is our youth, and we have to strive, by all means possible, to educate and develop them to be leaders of tomorrow. Our teachers play a vital role in the process and development of our youth by ensuring a competent workforce and giving these students the tools needed to prepare them for college.
I will push to fully fund education and provide the teachers the pay raise they deserve to keep them in Mississippi. It is vital to have the most qualified teachers possible to influence and enhance the minds of the students to prepare them to be the future of Mississippi. Students also deserve the best possible educational opportunities.
Along with many other hobbies, I am an avid hunter and enjoy being outdoors.
It will be a privilege to serve District 84. Thank you for your support.
