The band hall on the campus of Union High School was filled with a mixture of students and parents on Thursday, showing their support for seven senior band members as they signed letters of intent to further their education and talents at the next level.
After a brief introduction from Band Director Adam Devenney, the seven bandmates put pen to paper, signing to share their talents with a couple of in-state schools.
Morgan Hisaw, Jacob Howell, Anna Shaw, Morgan Shaw, Joe Spreafico, and Isabella Wolverton signed letters of intent to play for the Wall O’ Sound at East Central Community College, while Jonathon Shelton signed a letter of intent to play for the Famous Maroon Band at Mississippi State University.
Band Director Adam said that he’s proud for the seniors and looks forward to seeing their success at the next level. “I’ve known these students for 8 years, so you get really attached when working with an amazing group of seniors like them,” he said. “I’m incredibly proud of the work they did for me, to see what kind of people they’ve become, and I’m proud that they’re going to continue playing in bands at the next level. We’ll be cheering them on!”
When asked about the high number of students moving on to the next level from his program this year, Devenney said that all the credit goes to the hard work that the seniors put into it. “It’s a blessing that they had an opportunity to go to the next level and get a chunk of their tuition paid for after working so hard and learning their instruments for eight years,” he said. “They’ve left a great legacy and they’ve worked to help set the next classes up to succeed. We’re very grateful for that.”
