Basketball: NCA girls get big win over 5A Park Place

The Newton County Academy girls only got in one game last week but made it count.

The Lady Generals used a balanced scoring attack as they look a 52-37 win over Class 5A Park Place Academy on Monday.

Basketball: Union girls take down defending champs Lake

The Union Lady Yellowjackets picked up three wins this past week, including a one over the two-time defending Class 2A champions.

Union opened the week with a 46-34 win over West Lauderdale and then beat Lake 49-42 on Thursday. They finished the week with an easy 59-26 win over Clarkdale.

Basketball: NCHS wins thriller

King’s game-winner lifts Cougars past Quitman

Newton County boys basketball coach Stephen Wade has had some close calls against Quitman but all of them ended up in losses.

That was until Friday night when the Cougars got a last-minute three-point play from Dasan King to take a 54-51 win over the Panthers.

Entertainment: NCHS drama to present Christmas Spectacular

The Newton County High School Theatre Class is set to entertain audiences of all ages with their Christmas Spectacular this week at the Newton High School Gymnasium.

The Christmas Spectacular, taking place on Thursday and Friday at 6 p.m., consists of three productions that’s sure to spread plenty of holiday cheer and laughs.
