BASKETBALL: Union girls fall in finals, boys rally from heartbreaker

Despite a homecourt advantage, Union was unable to bring home a division championship last week.

The Union girls started the 4-2A tournament with a 57-41 win over Eupora but then fell 54-46 to Philadelphia in the tournament finals.

Newton’s boys hold on to defeat Bay Springs in finals

The Newton boys beat Bay Springs 67-60 in the finals of the Region 5-2A tournament on Friday night at Scott Central to clinch the Region Championship.

The Newton girls also made the finals but lost 54-52 to Bay Springs in the 5-2A finals.

Soccer: Lady Cougars advance

Newton County set to compete in third round

Last year, the Newton County girls soccer team struggled to score goals in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs.

But that wasn’t the case this year as newton County beat South Pontotoc 7-0 to take a mercy-rule win. They followed it up with a 1-0 win over Amory Monday night.
