The Newton County soccer teams saw their seasons come to an end last week with a pair of tightly contested games.
The Lady Cougars dropped a 2-1 decision to New Albany while the Cougars fell 3-2 to Corinth.
Corinth boys 3, County 2 (OT, PK)
The Cougars saw their season come to an end last week in a hard-fought loss to the Warriors.
Newton County scored one goal in regulation by Cole Tadlock in the 33rd minute. In the second overtime period, Tate Baucum scored in the 96th minute for Newton County to send the game to a golden goal OT. Neither team scored during the golden goal periods. In shootout period, Corinth won 4-2 as Brian Sanchez and Tate Baucum made their attempts as the Warriors took the win.
“The guys didn’t end their season the way we had hoped, but I am proud of them for the way they played,” Newton County coach Will Thompson said. “I am proud of this senior group and all that they have accomplished. They have been a great example for these younger players to show them how we do things here at Newton County.”

The Lady Cougars also saw their season come to an end last week with a one-goal loss to the Lady Bulldogs in the second round of the playoffs.
Kaylee Avant scored Newton County’s only goal on a penalty kick.
“I hate that the season didn’t end the way we wanted it to but after having missed out on qualifying for playoffs last year, the girls and I are happy with the team’s play this season,” coach Sara Thompson said. “The girls are already looking forward to next year but we will definitely miss this group of senior girls.”
