Whittle honored for retirement

BankFirst Community Bank President Doug Whittle was honored for his years of service during a retirement celebration Friday afternoon at the Newton downtown bank location. Whittle has been community bank president in Newton since BankFirst acquired Newton County Bank in 2015.

Books donated for 100th birthday

In celebration of the 100th birthday of Imogene “Jean” Russell, her great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren donated 137 books to the Jessie Mae Everett Public Library in Decatur. Russell, who’s birthday took place on October 25, 2022, requested books for donation instead of gifts.

Club News: Hickory Reading Club

The January 12 meeting of the Hickory Reading Club was hosted by Marcia Everett and April Gilbert. Members enjoyed a pizza/salad/dessert meal in the Hickory Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, which was decorated with a whimsical blue and snowman motif.
