Has autumn finally arrived in East Mississippi? Or is it simply playing hide and seek with summer?
The few days it allows us to escape the sweltering heat of the southern summer this time of year are welcome in my world. I didn’t get outdoors much this weekend, but when I did the weather was almost perfect, with the exception of Mississippi’s extreme humidity. I hoped to have some fall-break stories from you, my readers, this week. Maybe none of you vacationed, or even worked throughout the break, like I did.
I did get a call from Mary Ware, who reported that she and husband Ben took a road trip on Friday to French Camp, where they dined at The Council House Cafe. After lunch, they returned home through Kosciusko and spent some time at the VA Nursing Home with Joe Caperton.
They called ahead to let Joe know they were coming and found him waiting for them on the front porch, where they had a great time catching up on news and reminiscing o
ver old times. Joe lived in Union most of his life and has many friends in Union, to whom he wishes to say hello. Mary said he looked good and seemed to be doing well.
Randy Skinner stopped by my house during his run yesterday evening and dropped off a DVD of his newest film, the award-winning Christian Inspirational film, “Flowers From Heaven 2.” One evening this week, I will settle in the recliner with a bowl of popcorn and the movie in my DVD player to watch it. It will be especially exciting for me, since he talked to us at a Writers Guild meeting about it last spring, before filming had begun. I am very proud to count Randy among my friends, and to have this film in my hands. He suggested I have a screening in my home with the Newton/Neshoba Chapter of the Writers Guild. Anyone interested in attending if we do?
Oct. 16 was Bosses Day. I was in Louisiana last Monday and had to offer my thanks and well-wishes a day late to my supervisor, James Freeny and Mill Managers Calvin Bailey and Wayne Culliver.
October is also Pastor Appreciation Month. We are currently without a pastor at Redeemer Baptist Church, but I would like to offer my thanks to the former pastors there, Shane Martin and Jamey Leach, as well as all the pastors who have played a significant role in helping build and maintain my faith. I hope every local church will show a special appreciation to your pastor this month. They can be very hard to replace.
I look forward to hearing from readers. Sometimes I get several items to print from you all, and sometimes I get none. I love hearing from you, and try to cover everything that is sent to me. I appreciate all of your emails and voice mails. So keep them coming to gingersnapwelch@gmail.com or leave voice mail at 769-222-7055 or text me on 601-504-3146.
Until next week, treat one another with love and grace and may the Lord bless and keep you.
