An Inspiring Story: Old Timers
A couple in their 90s are both having problems remembering things. They decide to go to the doctor for a checkup.
The doctor tells them that they’re physically okay, but they might want to start writing things down to help them remember. Later that night while watching TV, the old man gets up from his chair.
His wife asks, “Where are you going?”
“To the kitchen,” he replies.
“Will you get me a bowl of ice cream?”
“Sure.”
“Don’t you think you should write it down so you can remember it?” she asks.
“No, I can remember it.”
“Well, I’d like some strawberries on top, too. You’d better write it down, because you know you’ll forget it.”
He says, “I can remember that! You want a bowl of ice cream with strawberries.”
“I’d also like whipped cream. I’m certain you’ll forget that, so you’d better write it down!” she retorts.
Irritated, he says, “I don’t need to write it down, I can remember it! Leave me alone! Ice cream with strawberries and whipped cream — I got it, for goodness sake!” Then he grumbles into the kitchen. After about 20 minutes the old man returns from the kitchen and hands his wife a plate of bacon and eggs. She stares at the plate for a moment and says ... “Where’s my toast?
Sunrise services at Grace United were awesome with good attendance. Everyone enjoyed the fellowship afterwards with the men cooking breakfast. Thanks, you guys!
On Easter weekend there were families getting together for lunch or dinner. After going to sunrise services, enjoying visiting with families and the evening off from Sunday night services, they got a rested evening and got back to the grind on Monday. It was a beautiful weekend.
My deepest sympathy is extended to the family of Janie Langham, 92, of Little Rock. Services were held on Monday at Greenland Baptist Church with burial in church cemetery. Bros. Justin Chaney and Ed Tatum officiated.
My deepest sympathy is also extended to the family of Helen Munn 82, of Newton. Services were held on Monday with burial in Midway Church Cemetery.
My deepest sympathy is also extended to the family of Bro Steve Winstead, 69, of Meridian, Bro. Steve held revival services at Grace United last year, where he was a great man of God! I will always remember him. Bro. Steve was saved June 23 1979, and was a member of Goodwater Baptist Church. He became well known in this area as an evangelist and soul winner.

Recipe for the week: Preacher Cake
Ingredients: 2 cups sugar (may cut the sugar to 1 cup –1 1/2 cups as it is very sweet), 2 cups all-purpose flour, 2 eggs, 2 teaspoons baking soda, 1/2 teaspoons salt, 2 teaspoons vanilla, 1/2 cups nuts — walnuts or any that you prefer, 1 can(s) 20 ounces crushed pineapple - undrained (I use pineapple in it’s own juice).
Frosting: 1 package 8 ounce cream cheese – softened, 1 3/4 cup powdered sugar, 1/4 cup butter or margarine, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1/2 cup nuts - walnuts or any that you prefer, 2 teaspoon vanilla.
1. Cake: Combine dry ingredients; add remaining ingredients and mix by hand.
2. Bake in a 9 x 13 prepared pan at 350 degrees for approximately 30-45 minutes. Do not over bake or it will be rubbery, but still delicious :)
3. Frosting: Mix well and spread on cake in pan. Enjoy! If you would like to save calories, instead of using the frosting, just sprinkle top of cake with a bit of powdered sugar and enjoy! There is no milk, butter or oil in the cake. You may add other fruits or coconut if you like: some suggestions are: dried cranberries, raisins, currants, tub of mixed dried fruit, and even fresh blueberries.
I suggest that you may cut the sugar to 1 cup as it is very sweet. I often cut the sugar in recipes.
