Grace United Baptist Church will have a community-wide Fall Festival 4-8 p.m. Oct. 5. There will be games, a dunking booth, a haunted school bus, popcorn, hot dogs, food, prizes, inflatables, wristbands and tickets available, weather permitting. Hickory Chamber of Commerce’s Banquet will be held 7 p.m. Sept. 28. Tyler McCaughn will be the guest speaker. Gary Thorne will provide the music. Tickets will be $20 each. There will also be a raffle on a chair, tickets for which are $5 each or three for $10.

Recipe for the week: Mama Steward’s Strawberry Cake
Ingredients: 1 box white cake mix, 1 box strawberry gelatin (small box), 1 cup oil, 1/2 cup milk, 4 eggs, 1 cup mashed sweetened strawberries (not drained)
Frosting: 1 stick butter, softened, 1-pound box of powdered sugar, 1/2 cup mashed strawberries, drained.
