The Believers Quartet will be in concert at Grace United Baptist Church on Nov. 19 during morning service. Thanksgiving meal will be Nov. 19.
The Hickory Christmas Parade will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2 in downtown Hickory.
Adrain Roland of Hickory was awarded Student of the Month for Agriculture and Natural Resources II presented by Newton County Career and Technical Center on Nov. 3. Tyler Caroll is the Instructor, and Aaron Cooley is the NCCTC Director. Congratulations, Adrain.
The Liberty Community Club met on Monday, Nov. 13 for the annual stew cooking. We had stew, cornbread, crackers and a variety of desserts. Mike Dearing, president led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. Ruby Boutwell gave a devotion on “even when your hut is on fire” God is always with you. We gathered purses and shaving
kits with toiletries in them to give to the Newton County Extension service. These will be given to people in need later this month.
We want to remember our friends having surgery and illness … Hanni Copeland, Peggy Gaines and Littleton Grady. Marion Felton and friends sang several songs and the crowd joined in on many of them. The next meeting will be in January on the second Monday of the month. Come join us for fun and fellowship.

Recipe of the week: Coke Cake
Ingredients: 1 cup Coca-Cola, 1/2 cup buttermilk, 1 cup butter or margarine, softened, 1 3/4 cups sugar, 2 large eggs, lightly beaten, 2 teaspoons vanilla extract, 2 c
ups all-purpose flour, 1/4 cup cocoa, 1 teaspoon baking soda, 1 1/2 cups miniature marshmallows, Coca-Cola Frosting: Garnish: 3/4 cup chopped pecans, toasted.
Directions: Step 1. Combine Coca-Cola and buttermilk; set aside.
Step 2. Beat butter at low speed with an electric mixer until creamy. Gradually add sugar; beat until blended. Add egg and vanilla; beat at low speed until blended.
Step 3. Combine flour, cocoa, and soda. Add to butter mixture alternately with cola mixture; begin and end with flour mixture. Beat at low speed just until blended.
Step 4. Stir in marshmallows. Pour batter into a greased and floured 13 x 9-inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes.
Remove from oven; cool 10 minutes. Pour Coca-Cola Frosting over warm cake; garnish, if desired.
Step 5. Note: Don’t make the frosting ahead – you need to pour it over the cake shortly after baking. To finish, generously top your sheet cake with toasted chopped pecans, chocolate chips, strawberries, or even a scoop of ice cream, if desired.
