As chapter head for the Newton-Neshoba Chapter, I was invited to attend the state board meeting for Mississippi Writers Guild. It was held at the Anjou Restaurant in the Township at Ridgeland.
They chose a very nice venue for the meeting, an atmosphere of elegance. The new president is Susan Marquez, Nancy Wessman the new treasurer. Our friend Rachelle Putnam of the Lauderdale group was also there, along with two other chapter heads from Laurel and Hattiesburg, Rachell Anderson and Jamie O’Quinn.
After lunch, the board members were on conference call to past president, Mark Lafrance, where plans were discussed for this year’s annual conference to be held in Meridian this year, methods for growing our chapters and discussions of leaders for the conference. I will have more news for you about that conference as soon as I get all the details together.
The conference is open to all writers or wannabe writers. The conference fee is a small amount more than for members of the Guild, but it is reasonable. If you would like to become a member of the Guild, you may sign up on the Mississippi Writers Guild website. Or contact me if you prefer a paper form to fill out with a check to send by mail.
Our chapter has been on time-out since fall of last year, but I am trying to make arrangements to kick start it for the first Saturday in May. I have held them in my home for about seven years. I am going to seek a new place to hold the meetings if I can.
Working full time doesn’t leave a lot of time for the deep cleaning and organizing necessary to host a meeting in my home. I always supply refreshments and will continue to do so wherever we have them. If any of you would like to try meeting with us, we would love to have you. We have folks from the fields of writing music, poetry, romance, mystery, Americana, history, Christian, short stories, and books.
I will put more information in this column with the place for the meeting and have all the details by the end of April.
I hope your week has gone well so far. I keep checking my voicemails, texts and emails, hoping for something from readers that I can include in my column. Maybe next week? Until then, be blessed, be thankful and keep the faith.
