I talked with Anne Duett this morning. She saw her first hummingbird last week, the day after she put the feeder out. It was a male, who left and returned a couple of days later with a mate.
Also, Anne’s birthday will be next Sunday, April 1, which is also April Fool’s Day, and this year is also Easter Sunday. Happy birthday, Anne.
Next Saturday, March 31, James and Betty Stack will host their annual Easter egg hunt for Redeemer Baptist Church at their home in House. I haven’t heard yet whether Peter Rabbit will be on hand to help out this year. Or was that the Easter bunny himself last year?
This morning (Sunday) I wa
s able to have my first mug of coffee on my front porch, for the first time this year. Even in the early morning, today was comfortable for sitting outdoors, watching and listening to the many bird variations and squirrel antics.
This time of year, we have many reminders every day of the goodness of God and of his sheer genius of artistry everywhere we look. We see it in the fresh bloom of spring flowers, the signs of new life springing forth all about us, a breathtaking sunrise or sunset. Yes, I know that nowadays, nature or science gets credit for it all, even the wind that blows softly like a sigh, or violently as a gale. All of the natural beauty around us created by this all-powerful God, gives testimony to its Creator. Just look. Listen. Can’t you hear?
On Saturday I picked Summer up in Forest. We went to see the movie, “I Can Only Imagine,” the true story of Bart Millard, lead singer of the contemporary Christian group, Mercy Me. His song by the same name as the movie, which God inspired in him after his father died, crossed over into other genres and was played on many non-Christian stations. It made triple platinum status in sales.
As Amy Grant told him, “You didn’t write that song in 10 minutes. It took a lifetime.” For anyone who wants to be inspired, I highly recommend this movie, especially those who have or had a stormy relationship with a parent. It is a beautiful tale of forgiveness and restoration. It was a wonderful way to spend a Saturday afternoon with my goddaughter.
Later in the day, my granddaughter Jade came to visit with her dad, Summer and me for a couple of hours. She and Summer are only one week apart in age, both of them 15. Their personalities and home atmosphere are very different but they have been close as sisters most of their lives.
After church, Jade went with us to Forest, where we ate at the Mexican restaurant and took Summer home after lunch. Jade fell asleep in the back seat, just like she always has when riding in the car.
As this Easter season is upon us, please don’t let the children become so enthralled with the merriment of Easter baskets, candy and finding colored eggs, that they lose sight of the reason we have Easter. Take some time to remind them that they have a Savior who was born, died and resurrected so that we can all have eternal life in Him, if we choose to.
That is the greatest miracle of all, and our only hope in this life, when all around us seems to be failing.
Have a great week and Easter weekend, and take some time to reflect on all that God has done for you.
