Although several businesses have closed down and many employees have transitioned to working from home, healthcare workers and other essential workers still go to work every day. Healthcare workers fight the Coronavirus on the front lines while those in other essential industries also continue to provide essential supplies to people all across the country. Many Union residents either work in one of these professions or know someone who does. Throughout this coronavirus pandemic, we cannot forget the crucial work these people are doing.
Doctors, nurses, laboratory technicians and many other healthcare workers are dealing with the virus and the effects of the virus at work every day. They perform tests and treat patients as well as attending to all of their regular duties. In addition to their everyday uniform of scrubs and/or a lab coat, many healthcare workers also don a gown, N95 mask, and other protective gear before treating patients. In this sense, their fight against this pandemic truly resembles a battle. As soldiers don combat armor before fighting a battle, healthcare workers don protective equipment before battling the coronavirus. The pandemic strains the healthcare system, however, and many hospitals lack the proper amount of equipment, causing healthcare workers to fight this battle with what they have. In addition to coronavirus patients, healthcare workers also face the challenge of treating non-coronavirus patients while keeping them safe from infection. Because of all their hard work and determination in the face of all these challenges, healthcare workers deserve thanks and appreciation.
While healthcare workers battle coronavirus on the front lines, other essential workers battle to supply the nation with essential items. These workers span many different industries, and they still go to work while everyone else stays home. These workers provide food, electricity, and many other necessities during this pandemic; these workers are all that stands between everyone else and a shortage of basic necessities. They will help provide food, electricity and anything else people might need during these tumultuous times. In Union, the Piggly Wiggly will remain open in order to provide the community with access to groceries. Healthcare workers may receive most of the attention by the media and on social media platforms, but the other essential workers are just as important and deserve just as much appreciation.
While the rest of us can best serve the community by remaining at home, healthcare workers go to battle on the front lines, and essential workers provide the community with food and other necessities. Without all of these workers, the pandemic would have already won, and although times seem dark right now, the pandemic will eventually end, and our essential workers will have won their battle. As a community, Union thanks its healthcare workers and other essential employees. We will always remember their sacrifice and the commitment they made to defending their community during these trying times.
