Johnny Neil Smith and S
usan Cruce Smith would like to thank all the people who came out in support of their recent book signings. They held five signings in four days and thoroughly enjoyed being at home, meeting old friends and making new ones. Best of all was meeting for their class reunion of 1958 and 1959.
Don’t forget the Memorial Day service at 10 a.m. May 28 at the flag pole in the mini-park, downtown Union. This is sponsored by Woodman Life of Union, Chapter 332. Everyone is invited to attend.
On my way home from Louisiana, I stopped by Summer’s to meet Henry Cole Smith. He was not at all friendly. As a matter of fact, he ignored me. He was sound asleep in his swing and I would not disturb his rest to hold him. Maybe he will wake up and meet me next time. He is a sweet, pretty newborn. Summer was away visiting friends. Maybe next time for her also.
In Louisiana last week, our friends we have always claimed as cousins visited Pat and me at the trailer. They are Theresa Miller and Brenda Urban, who we called the Gilmore girls growing up. Great visit! Now that I have my vacation home there, it is good to be able to see old friends and family more often. The years slip by so quickly, and sometimes it just seemed a decade might go by without seeing one another. But we can get together occasionally now.
I never could catch up with Carol She was spending time with her daughters in Houston, Texas. I thought she was returning to Monroe last Tuesday, but I never could reach her though I tried numerous times to call her.
While I was away, Travis accompanied his daughter Jade to watch the Union High seniors graduate last week. They had a good time. I think it did a lot to change both of their minds about a lot of things.
Chelle and Kenny joined me in West Monroe on Thursday evening and stayed until a few minutes before I left on Sunday. We shopped and ate and they went to see some of the landmarks of Chelle’s youth. And they tried out the expanded menu at Coney Island in Monroe. The hotdogs and tamales there have always been outstanding, but now they even serve shrimp and crawfish dishes.
I hope everyone has a blessed week and a grateful heart, and you will all meet me again here next week.
