Elizabeth Breland reports that she has two February birthdays. Her granddaughter, Parker Breland, will be 18 on Feb. 24. Her son, Jeff Breland, will celebrate his birthday on Feb. 27. Wishing a happy birthday to each of these.
Stacy Turner and her father, Louis Skinner, traveled to Leland on Thursday, Feb. 15 to visit the Mississippi Wildlife Heritage Museum. They stopped in at the Indianola Pecan House for some delicious pralines and key lime pecans.
At the museum, they met avid outdoorsman and author Robert Hitt Neill and poured through many fascinating relics of mounted wildlife trophies and stories of the hunts. The Hall of Famers who caught their attention were Decatur’s Melvin Tingle of Mississippi Outdoors, world champion turkey caller Jack Dudley of DeKalb, and Billy Ed Tinnin, a renowned Delta coon hunter.
Stacy and Louis enjoyed their visit with Mr. Neill, then headed home, stopping for a delicious home cooked lunch at Fratesi’s Grocery in Leland.
The cotton fields were empty this trip but the pair hope to return later in the year for a more scenic drive.
Sounds like a great day-trip to me!
Last Tuesday, my dear friend, Pamela Carron, said her final goodbyes to her beloved husband, Aubrey Carron. Many family members were there. My son Travis and I spent about an hour with Pamela before the service.
Aubrey was a great guy with a very amicable personality. The first cruise Pamela, Annette Bailey and I went on, Aubrey took us to New Orleans, getting us there in plenty of time to board and settle in. For the second trip in 2015, we decided to take the train to New Orleans. Aubrey took us to the train station in Jackson. Aubrey and Pamela made many cruises together, but it was all girls’ time when we embarked!
I have been medicating this weekend with Mucinex and allergy medication, trying to ward off the bronchial irritation that sometimes occurs with this nasty-weather sinus drainage that plagues me. I am hoping the cough syrup I took for bedtime will break up some of the congestion in my upper bronchial region, so I don’t wind up sick. Twice already this year, I have had to go to the doctor and take a round of antibiotics to keep it at bay. Diabetes and sickness does not go well together, so I try to nip any threat of it in the bud.
I hope you are all managing to stay healthy despite the wet, crazy weather that just keeps lingering. Stay in and dry and warm as much as possible. May the Lord keep you until we meet again here next week.
