Well, Annie proved her abilities again in that second snow of the winter we got last week. Is that a record for Union? I understand it has been a really long time since there were two snows weeks apart, and temps in the teens and holding to below freezing for several days, for the second time in the season. We can enjoy it or complain, but one thing is certain: there is nothing we can do to change it. Right Annie?
Are you going to get me another prediction before we get one from the groundhog? I think you can figure out how long the winter will last before he does. If so, you need to let me know this week. My next column will be the last one before Groundhog Day.
The snow was almost melted away when I left Union for Louisiana on Thursday evening. Friday night and Saturday morning were very cold, but the warming started late Saturday morning and continued today. I think rain tomorrow will bring more cold weather, although not as harsh as what we have experienced these last weeks.
I had a scratchy throat and ear ache and a dull pain in my tooth and on Friday, the throat was slightly sore. As a diabetic, I have to catch any potential illness early and have it treated. I went to a walk-in clinic not far from where I live in West Monroe. I was in and out in 30 minutes, with a shot and prescription for Amoxycillin to take for 10 days. Dr. Schooley said it could all be stemming from the tooth, a possible infection beginning with it. My ear was clear and throat only a slightly pink. I have an appointment next week to have my teeth cleaned. My dentist, Nicole Harrison, has been watching this tooth for a while now. We haven’t wanted to pull it until we have to, but I think it is probably time to go ahead and set up an appointment to do it.
Carol treated Pat and me to lunch at Longhorn Steakhouse on Pat’s birthday Saturday. Afterward, I treated us all to a movie. We saw “Forever My Girl.” It was a sweet romance, my favorite kind. It was a good movie, with good characters and good actors/actresses. Abby Ryder Fortson was the child actress who played the hero’s and heroin’s daughter. She stole the limelight in my opinion. Very talented! I expect to see a lot more of this young girl.
Sunday, I went to church at Community Baptist Church, where Bro. Danny McIlveene pastors. One of the members led the morning service, sharing his testimony. I have so much respect for people who have the courage to share where they have been, what God brought them out of, and where they are now. In his case, he shares his testimony wherever he can now, and has a regular ministry in the jails and prisons.
I have errands to run on Monday and hopefully a visit from my niece afterward, and dinner with Pat in the evening. On Tuesday, I will be heading for home, Lord willing, and back to work when you read this on Wednesday.
