This morning I started my Sunday morning by having coffee on my front porch with good friend, Annette Newsome. She and her husband, Johnny, arrived in Union on Thursday afternoon. Her visits to Union are short, bu
t we always try to get together for a few minutes and catch up on each other’s lives. I ran over to her house briefly on Saturday while her daughter, Amy, and friend, Felica, were there.
Amy asked me to mention in this week’s column that there will be a birthday celebration this Friday, June 21 for the 105th birthday of Inez Chesney at J.G. Alexander nursing home in Union. Inez’s son Lavelle is a co-worker of mine, a reclaim driver with Tyson Feed Mill.
Summer spent Saturday night and went to church Sunday morning with me. Baby Henry was spending Father’s Day weekend with his father in Pearl. One day soon, when he is a little older and stronger, I will bring both Henry and Summer to town and showhim off. He finally started to gain weight and is 8 ½ pounds now.
Amanda Tero and Natalie J. Nelson will have a book signing at the Union library on Thursday, June 21 from 2-4 p.m.
Vacation Bible school will begin Monday, June 18 at 6 p.m. at Redeemer Baptist Church in House. Brother Tyler, the pastor, has agreed to a pie in the face if we get a certain number of children in Bible school. He has also volunteered his wife to administer said pie.
I hope all of the fathers in the community had a wonderful Father’s Day. My own father and my children’s father, having gone to be with the Lord many years ago, were greatly missed by us all. Fathers are probably the most unsung heroes of all. Mothers do occasionally receive a little credit or even praise. Mothers’ Day brings in much more money to retailers than Fathers’ Day. Why do we tend to overlook our dads, when it comes to giving out “thank you’s.” I will gladly take this opportunity to say to all of the fathers who read my column, “Thanks for all you contribute to your family and the rest of us.”
Until next week, be safe and blessed.
