It was just over a year ago that our Chunky neighbor Makenlee Wright had an ATV accident that almost caused the loss of her right arm. Many of you prayed for her, visited her, took her family food and helped raise funds for her medical expenses.
After a lot of time and effort, Makenlee received some welcome news on Valentine’s Day — a team of doctors at Harvard Medical School believe they can restore a substantial range of motion to Makenlee’s arm, a good bit more than her current 20 percent range.
As family friend Linda Lockridge put it, “All Makenlee wants is to be able to throw a ball, ride a horse, hunt, fish, cook, put her hair in a ‘high’ pony tail as she calls it, and put her makeup on with the use of her arm again, like any teenager would want to do.”
Makenlee will need a lot of prayers and financial help. Her surgery is scheduled for the beginning of April in Boston.
On March 24, the Saturday one week prior to the surgery, at 11 a.m., Corinth Baptist Church in DeKalb will hold a spaghetti fundraiser to help offset expenses for Makenlee and her family. The church is located at 6544 Hwy. 495 South.
Would you be willing to spend $7 for a plate of spaghetti, salad, dessert and a drink? You’d definitely spend more than that at a restaurant.
If you looked into Makenlee’s smiling face and she asked you personally to contribute $7 to help her get more use from her arm, would you even hesitate? You’d probably give more than that. Chunky is full of generous people.
If you can, go buy a plate that next-to-last Saturday of March. Or make a donation. Or if you can’t go by to buy or say hi or bye before the by-and-by, then you can reach out to them through Makenlee’s Prayer Page on Facebook, and find out how you can get a donation to them.
More than anything, pray for her — for the surgery, her recovery, her continued attitude of perseverance and joy.
Do something for me real quick, if you would — go look at a calendar. What day is it today? What day of the week, the month? Aha! That’s what I thought — it’s the perfect day to reach out in love to someone else.
I promise you, you won’t regret it.
