Bluegrass Gospel Singing on the River and Cornhole Tournament
The public is invited to head to the Chunky River Recreation area, Saturday, Oct. 20, for a day of music, fun and food at the Bluegrass Gospel Singing on the River and Cornhole Tournament.
Singing will begin at 11 a.m., with bands such as Leipers Fork Bluegrass, Pilgrim Family Bluegrass Band and Jason Archie Family
The first Boss Toss Cornhole Tournament will kick off after the music, around 3:30 p.m. Teams will be able to compete for a $5 entry fee. Prizes and trophies will be awarded to the first and second place finishers.
Admission is free, but residents are encouraged to stop by the concession stands, which will be available throughout the day. Bring your own lawn chair.

Lawrence School Reunion
The Annual reunion of the Lawrence School will meet October 6, 2018. Everyone is invited to start gathering at 10 a.m. and after a potluck meal, hopefully everyone will stay around and visit. Alumni please make plans to attend and bring a guest. Feel free to bring pictures, as well as stories to tell and pass around from our time together at this wonderful old school. Look forward to seeing you all there!
Decatur Woman’s Progressive Club Bunco Tournament
Everyone is invited to participate in the Decatur Woman’s Progressive Club Bunco Tournament at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, at the Decatur Volunteer Fire Department. The cost to participate is $10. Proceed will go to benefit the fire department and club projects. Light snacks will be served, and door prizes will be given. Attendees are encouraged to wear their favorite team jersey.
Fall Wreath Raffle

The Newton Chamber of Commerce is hosting their 9th Annual WhistleStop Marketplace on Saturday, Dec. 1 in the Historic Newton Depot. “Marvin Brown and God’s Anointed Musical”
Marvin Brown and God’s Anointed will be having a Gospel Concert Sunday, Oct. 7 at 5 p.m., at The C. H. Boler Building. Special guests for the event will be Marvin Brown and God’s Anointed of Meridian, Union Grove Mass Choir of Forest, The Gospel Songs Birds of Meridian and many, many more. Future Ready
Newton Library will host Future Ready, a college and career readiness program for middle school children. The program will feature guest speakers and fun activities that help with leadership, self-confidence, and creativity. Classes are held Thursdays, from 5-6 p.m. at the J. Family Movie Night

NHCC Garage Sale
The Newton Historical Cultural Commission will sponsor a garage sale to help with funds needed for day-to-day operation of the Hoye House, Oct. 5-6 at the Hoye House. Anyone wishing to donate to the sale can drop items at Dezignz by Nikki or the back porch of the Hoye House.
Quilting Club
Busy Hands Quilting Club will meet on Oct. 9, at 9 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall of Decatur United Methodist Church, Broad Street, Decatur. Linda and Mary will be in charge of the program, making a lap quilt for one of our own. Please bring your lunch and drink.
Also bring one or more 9-inch squares in solid or printed and
your sewing machine and quilting tools. Bring a friend to join in.
