MSU Extension Service offers “Forestland as an Investment” courses
The MSU Extension Service will be offering a short course covering all aspects of timberland ownership and management on five consecutive Tuesdays (Sept. 25 and Oct. 2) from 6-8 p.m. This program is designed for landowners, foresters, or others considering investing in land and timber. Cost is $30 per person, $40 per couple for materials and dinner on the last evening.

Pearl River Clean Sweep
The Pearl Riverkeeper organization is looking for volunteers to take part in the second annual Pearl River Clean Sweep Sept. 22.
Hundreds of volunteers across two states will help collect trash and debris from the Pearl River from its origin in Nanih Waiya to the Gulf Coast.
Volunteer positions are open to all ages. Residents can visit pearlriverkeeper.com/cleanup-locations-2018.html for a list of cleanup sites and registration.
Bluegrass Gospel Singing on the River and Cornhole Tournament
The public is invited to head to the Chunky River Recreation area, Saturday, Oct. 20, for a day of music, fun and food at the Bluegrass Gospel Singing on the River and Cornhole Tournament.
Singing will begin at 11 a.m., with bands such as Leipers Fork Bluegrass, Pilgrim Family Bluegrass Band and Jason Archie Family
The first Boss Toss Cornhole Tournament will kick off after the music, around 3:30 p.m. Teams will be able to compete for a $5 entry fee. Prizes and trophies will be awarded to the first and second place finishers.
Admission is free, but residents are encouraged to stop by the concession stands, which will be available throughout the day. Bring your own lawn chair.

Lawrence School Reunion
The Annual reunion of the Lawrence School will meet October 6, 2018. Everyone is invited to start gathering at 10 a.m. and after a potluck meal, hopefully everyone will stay around and visit. Alumni please make plans to attend and bring a guest. Feel free to bring pictures, as well as stories to tell and pass around from our time together at this wonderful old school. Decatur Woman’s Progressive Club Bunco Tournament
Everyone is invited to participate in the Decatur Woman’s Progressive Club Bunco Tournament at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, at the Decatur Volunteer Fire Department. The cost to participate is $10. Proceed will go to benefit the fire department and club projects. Light snacks will be served, and door prizes will be given. Attendees are encouraged to wear their favorite team jersey.
