Doyle Gibbs, 77, of Newton, Mississippi, passed away Thursday, March 12, 2020 at Anderson’s Regional Medical Center in Meridian, Mississippi. He was born Friday, May 8, 1942 in Lawrence, Mississippi.
Visitation was held 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 14, 2020 at the Newton County Funeral Home- North in Newton with funeral services immediately following. Burial followed in Newton County Memorial Gardens. Dr. Brian Rushing and Bro. Randy Cuchens officiated. Newton County Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. (601) 635-3200
Doyle was a lifelong resident of Newton County. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Newton. He worked at La-Z-Boy South for 37 years in which he started out in upholstery, then became the purchasing agent and retired as materials manager. Doyle was an outdoorsman in which he loved hunting, fishing, horseback riding and golfing. After retirement he enjoyed camping and watching his grandchildren play sports. He was blessed to have many friends of all ages and walks of life with whom he loved to socialize. He also enjoyed being a member of Red Hat Deer Club.
Doyle will be remembered as a friend who was always willing to lend a hand. He was a perfectionist that could fix anything. He was one that spoke his mind and you knew where you stood with him. Pop, as he was affectionately known by his grandkids, will truly be missed by all of his family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Talmage and Jean Gibbs.
Survivors include wife of 54 years, Mary Cille Gibbs; daughters, Nicole McGee (Jeff) and Stacy Terrell (Jamie); grandchildren, Nick Thomas (Haley), Sydni Savell, Trey Terrell, Natalie Thomas, Reed Terrell, Josh McGee and Mallory McGee; sisters, Geraldine Crosby (Jerry), Shirley Madison (Billy Conn) and Brenda Howard; brother, Billy Joe Gibbs; and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Nick Thomas, Trey Terrell, Reed Terrell, Jim Mason, Jon Mason, Lane Crosby, Austin Bonds and Shannon Doss.
