Mary Doris Purvis, 90, of Newton died Friday, April 24, 2020, at her home in Newton. She was born Thursday, June 27, 1929 in Terry.
Private family graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 26, 2020 at Newton County Memorial Gardens. Bro. Mike Tullis officiated. Newton County Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mary was a retired state employee. She was a member of The First Methodist Protestant Church of Newton. She loved her family and grandchildren, and she will be greatly missed by all.
She was preceded in death by her husband, R. T. Purvis Sr.; her parents, Dan and Lola McDonald; her son, Danny Ray Purvis; her sisters, Dorothy Schwartz and Mildred Tucker; and her brother, Julius McDonald.
Survivors include her two sons, R. T. Purvis Jr. (Betty Joyce) and Tommy Purvis; three grandchildren, Mary Jones (Chad), Ryan Purvis (Bonnie) and Matthew Purvis (Holley); four great-grandchildren, Brett Jones, Landry Jones, Lauryn Purvis and Logan Purvis; and daughter-in-law, Donna Purvis Poythress.
Pallbearers were Ryan Purvis, Matthew Purvis, Chad Jones, Brett Jones, Rusty McMillan, Tommy Coghlan, Johnny Coghlan and Kenny Fayard.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to First Methodist Protestant Church of Newton.
