William Marvin Cooper, 84, of Newton, passed away at his home on Monday, Sept. 17, 2018. He was born Tuesday, June 5, 1934 in Tallulah, La.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 19, from 10-11 a.m. at the Newton County Funeral Home – North. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 19, at 11 a.m. at Newton County Funeral Home – North with burial to follow at the Newton Masonic Cemetery. Dr. Charles Douglas will officiate. William served his country during the Korean War as a Radarman 1st Class in the US Navy and upon returning, he attended Mississippi State University, and in 1961, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree. William worked in retail management until he retired in 1995. After moving back to Newton in 2001, he joined Newton Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder. He was a member of the Newton County chapter of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign War. He was also a member of the Newton County Forest Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold J. Cooper Sr. and Jonni Lee Pate Cooper and his brother, Arnold J. Cooper Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Sadie Cooper and sister, Mrs. Catherine Stevens, Omaha, NE; his twin sister, Mrs. Marie Ward, Montrose, CO and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Ivan Davis, George Davis, George Monk, Rene Read, Doug Whittle and Jim Blackburn.
