St. John MHV Club holds March meeting
The St. John MHV Club met on Friday, March 9 at the Newton Public Library. Vice president Shirley Johnson called the meeting to order.
Members present recited the Pledge of Allegiance, and the devotion followed.
Margie Beamon read scripture from Philippians 4:9-12 and Shirley Johnson offered prayer. Monica Logan read the thought for the day, and it was discussed by all.
Roll call and minutes were done by Logan, and business followed.
Beamon attended the MHV South Central Area spring planning meeting to discuss the plans for the upcoming spring area meeting April 3.
Shirley Johnson gave a report on the upcoming events for the Pleasant Grove 4-H Club. Paulette Tramill gave a report on the categories and rules for the upcoming cultural arts exhibit, which will be held on March 27.
Members present made an amendment regarding their sick/bereavement policy. Vice president Johnson also reminded members that April is Child Abuse Awareness Month, and she asked members to promote it.
Members present turned in their volunteer hours. The meeting was then adjourned at 6 p.m. with members present reading the MHV creed.
The next meeting will be at 5 p.m. April 13.
Hickory Reading Club hosts March meeting
The Hickory Reading Club’s March meeting, held in downtown Newton, was hosted by Dottie Armstrong and Linda Lofton. Teresa Nance catered a flavorful three-course meal ending with willpower-killing desserts.
Stacey Cook’s meditation used the verses of “Worthy Is the Lamb” to emphasize Jesus as a worthy treasure in God’s plan of reconciliation. She also lifted inspirational material from the real-life story of Colton, as revealed in the book “Heaven Is for Real.”
As the meeting program, in keeping with a Club purpose of intellectual development, Linda Lofton used the Mississippi Alternate Path to Quality Teachers Training Institute handbook as the basis for information about this certification opportunity. Her presentation included admissions criteria, course costs and length, success rates, usual stringent procedures and processes and published resources.
Pleasant Grove 4-H Club hosts March meeting
The Pleasant Grove 4-H Club of Newton recently held its regular meeting. The club opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and the 4-H Pledge.
There was no old business.
The new business was that the club will make Easter cards on the third Monday in March at the Newton Public Library. The 4-H Club trip was also discussed. The club will taking a trip by train to New Orleans on June 24-27.
Also, the 4-H will meet on March 28 at the Newton County Extension Office in Decatur to discuss their competitions. April 1 is the last day for the scholarship resume.
On the final Wednesday in May, some 4-Hers will go to Mississippi State in Starkville. There were six youth and two leaders present for the meeting.
