LAKE 4-5, STRINGER 3-3
The Lake Lady Hornets started their march towards a third straight state championship series appearance.
The Lady Hornets took two games from Stringer in second-round action with a 4-3 win on Friday and a 5-3 win on Saturday.
Lake improves to 16-9 on the season and advances to the third round of the Class 2A playoffs.
Lake will now take on the winner of Loyd Star and Mize, who were scheduled to complete their series on Monday.
Lake girls 4, Stringer 3
The Lady Hornets scored on a walk-off walk to take a one-run win over the Lady Red Devils on Friday.
The game was scoreless for the first three innings before Lake scored one in the fourth. Stringer scored one in the top of the fifth and Lake answered with two in the bottom of the frame to lead 3-1. Stringer then scored two in the top of the sixth to tie the game at 3-3 before Lake scored one in the seventh.
Stringer outhit Lake 9-5 in the contest. Kinsley Woods was 2-for-3 with two runs scored while Kate Gladney was 2-for-2 with an RBI. Abbie McGee singled and drove in a run.
Gladney pitched all seven innings in the circle and gave up three unearned runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out six to pick up the win.
Lake 5, Stringer 3
The Lady Hornets had one big inning and took a two-run win over the Lady Red Devils on Saturday.
Lake scored four runs in the top of the third while Stringer scored three in the bottom of the frame. Lake added one in the fourth while the Lady Hornets held on to take the win and series.
Lake outhit Stranger 8-7 in the contest. Kate Gladney was 2-for-3 with two RBIs while Sara Thompson was 2-for-4. Abbie McGee doubled and drove in a run while Lyric Lay doubled and scored twice.
Gladney started in the circle and pitched all seven innings, giving up seven hits and three earned runs while striking out eight.
