It was a rough week for the Newton County Academy softball team as they dropped a pair of run-rule games last week.
NCA lost a pair of games to Benton Academy, falling 10-0 on Monday and 16-4 on Tuesday.
NCA falls to 10-13 on the season and will now host Canton on Monday and make the return trip on Tuesday.
Benton 10, NCA 0
The Lady Generals didn’t have a hit as the Lady Raiders took a four-inning win on Monday.
Benton scored four in the first, one in the second and four in the fifth.
Benton had five hits and drew six walks.
Sophia Munn started in the circle and pitched three innings, giving up 10 runs on four hits and five walks.
Benton 16, NCA 4
The Lady Raiders banged out 14 hits and took advantage of five errors and three walks to take a six-inning, run-rule win on Tuesday.
NCA scored two in the first while Benton scored two in the second and third. NCA added single runs in the second and third and led 4-3 after four innings. But Benton then scored nine in the fifth and four in the sixth to take the win.
NCA had three hits as Maggie Kelly singled and scored two runs. Sophia Munn singled and scored a run while Kelsey Tibbetts singled and drove in a run.
Kelly started in the circle and pitched five innings, giving up 14 runs with only three earned on 11 hits and three walks. Munn pitched the last inning and gave up two unearned runs on three hits.
