The Newton County Academy softball team saw its season come to an end this week.
The Lady Generals lost in the opening round of the North 2A Tournament to Central Holmes but then rallied to beat Carroll 104 and Delta 14-13. They then lost to Indianola 4-3 to see their season come to an end.
NCA finishes the season with a 14-17 record.
NCA 16, Porter’s Chapel
The Lady Generals scored eight runs in the fourth inning and took a run-rule win over the Lady Eagles.
NCA scored three in the first, four in the second, one in the third and finished with eight in the fourth.
NCA had 12 hits in the contest, led by Adriane Luke who was 2-for-3 with two doubles, two runs scored and four RBIs. Bella Nelson was 3-for-3 while Bristal Miller was 2-for-2 with three RBIs and Brooklyn Vaughn was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Marli Clare Kelly singled and scored four runs while Sophia Munn walked three times and scored three runs.
Munn started in the circle and pitched four innings, giving up one unearned run on three hits while striking out seven to pick up the win.
NCA 15, Porter’s Chapel 4
The Lady Generals again used a big eight-run inning to take a run-rule win over the Lady Eagles on Tuesday.
NCA scored four in the first and two in the second and led 6-4. They added one in the third and then finished with eight in the fourth.
NCA had 11 hits, led by Kelsey Tibbets who was 2-for-4 with four RBIs. Ashlynn Chapman was 2-for-2 while Sophia Munn was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Adriane Luke doubled, had two RBIs and scored three runs while Marli Clare Kelly singled and scored three runs.
Kelsey Tibbetts pitched all four innings and gave up four runs on five hits and six walks while striking out two.
Central Holmes 9, NCA 3
The Lady Generals committed six errors in the field as the Lady Trojans took a six-run win on Saturday to open the 2A North State Tournament.
NCA scored single runs in the first, third and sixth innings. Central Holmes scored single runs in the second and sixth with three in the third and four in the fourth.
NCA had six hits in the contest, led by Adriane Luke who was 2-for-4 with a double, triple and two RBIs.
Marli Clare Kelly pitched four innings and gave up eight unearned runs on five hits and three walks while striking out five. Sophia Munn pitched two innings and gave up one unearned run on two hits while striking out one.
NCA 10, Carroll 4
The Lady Generals took advantage of eight errors and took a six-run win over the Lady Rebels on Saturday.
NCA scored four in the second, one in the third, two in the fourth and finished with four in the sixth.
NCA had just seven hits as Kelsey Tibbetts was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Brooklyn Vaughn was 2-for-4 with two runs scored while Marli Clare Kelly was 2-for-3 with a double.
Sophia Munn pitched all seven innings and gave up four runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five.
NCA 14, Delta 13
The Lady Generals got a big game from Adriane Luke and took one-run win over the Lady Raiders on Saturday.
NCA led 3-0 after two innings before Delta scored one in the third and nine in the fourth and led 10-3. NCA then scored two in the fifth and seventh and three in the third to send the game to extra innings. NCA scored four in the eighth and held Delta to three to take the win.
NCA had 18 hits in the contest, led by Luke who was 5-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Maggie Vance was 3-for-6 with three RBIs while Marli Clare Kelly was 2-for-4 with five RBIs. Brooklyn Vaughn was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Bristal Miller and Bella Nelson each had two hits as well.
Sophia Munn pitched 7 2/3 innings and gave up eight runs on 10 hits and two walks while striking out five. Kelly got the last out for NCA
Indianola 4, NCA 3
The Lady Colonels scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth and held on to take a one-run win on Monday.
The game was tied 1-1 after the fifth before NCA scored two in the sixth to go up 3-1. But Indianola rallied with three runs in the sixth to take the win.
NCA outhit Indianola 8-7. Kelsey Tibbetts and Ashlynn Chapman were each 2-for-3 while Adriane Luke homered, scored twice and had two RBIs. Marli Clare Kelly also doubled.
Sophia Munn pitched six innings and gave up four runs on seven hits while striking out seven.
