The Newton County Lady Cougars won their 12th straight game to end the regular season.
Newton County won two games last week, beating Quitman 8-0 on Tuesday and then beating Enterprise 10-2 on Thursday.
Newton County, now 21-5 on the season, received a bye in the first-round of the
Class 4A playoffs and will play the winner of the Stone County and McComb series, starting on Friday.
County 10, Enterprise 2
The Lady Cougars scored in five of the six innings and took an eight-run win over the Lady Bulldogs on Thursday to finish out the regular season.
County scored two in the first, one in the third and fourth, two in the fifth and four in the sixth. Enterprise scored two in the fourth.
Newton County outhit Enterprise 13-6 in the contest and had five players with multiple hits. Maeli Ben was 2-for-2 with two doubles, two walks, three hits and two RBIs. Brelie Phillips was 2-for-4 with a double while Mandarie Leach was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Shae Jimmie and Natalie Lampton were each 2-for-4 as well.
Jimmie started in the circle and pitched all seven innings, giving up two runs on six hits and one walk while striking out five.
County 8, Quitman 0
The Lady Cougars finished out another perfect run through Division 5-4A play with a shutout win over the Lady Panthers on Tuesday.
County scored two runs in the first, third, fifth and seventh innings.
County outhit Quitman 12-1 in the contest. Maeli Ben had a big game, going 3-for-4 with a triple, home run, three runs scored and two RBIs. Casey Dube was 3-for-4 with a double and three runs scored while Hannah Chaney was 3-for-4 with a double. Mandarie Leach was 2-for-4 with a double as well while Z Bell had three RBIs.
Leach was dominant on the mound, pitching all seven innings and scattered one hit and three walks while striking out six.
