It was a big week for the Union softball team.
Union split a pair of games with Sebastopol but took the district championship after winning 8-5 on Monday but losing 4-3 on Tuesday.
Union then took two games from Water Valley, winning 14-0 and 12-0 and didn’t give up a hit or a walk in a doubleheader sweep.
Union will now take on Hatley in second-round action. They will play at Union on Friday in a 6 p.m. contest and then play at Hatley on Saturday at 2 p.m. An if-necessary game would be Monday at Union.

For Sebastopol. Annagrace Stewart was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs while Hanna Boleware and Abbie Wilson each singled and drove in a run. Emma Smith also singled and scored.
For Union, Alanee Wheeler singled and drove in two runs while Lauryn Roebuck doubled, was hit twice and scored two runs. Abigail Cleveland singled and scored two runs while Destiny Moulds had a solo home run. Lacee Bishop also had two RBIs for the Lady Yellowjackets.
Wheeler started in the circle for Union and pitched all seven innings, giving up three runs on eight hits while striking out 15.

The Lady Bobcats took advantage of first-inning error and took a one-run win over the Lady Yellowjackets on Tuesday to split the series.
Sebastopol scored three runs in the first inning and added another in the four to go up 4-0. Union answered with two in the fifth and one in the seventh.
Sebastopol outhit Union 4-3 in the contest.
For Union, Destiny Moulds was 2-for-3 with a double, triple and two runs scored. Alanee Wheeler had Union’s other hit.
Wheeler pitched all six innings and gave up four runs with only one being earned on five hits and two walks while striking out six.

Hitting: Union had only three hits as Abigail Cleveland doubled and drove in two runs while Landry Hanna doubled and drove in three runs. Elle Killen singled, scored twice and drove in two runs. Lauryn Roebuck walked three times and scored twice while Lacee Bishop and Destiny Moulds each scored twice.
Pitching: Alanee Wheeler started in the circle and pitched three perfect innings, striking out nine to take the win.

Pitching: Abigail Cleveland started in the circle and pitched three innings, striking out four without giving up a hit or a walk.
