Newton County Basketball: Lady Cougars Split Division Games, Boys Drop Two

The Newton County Lady Cougars split a pair of division matches last week.

The Lady Cougars beat Leake Central 58-12 but lost 48-41 to Choctaw Central.

The Cougars lost both matches, falling 81-54 to Leake Central and 73-39 to Choctaw Central.

Sebastopol Basketball: Lady Bobcats Open District Play With Two Wins, Boys Split

The Sebastopol Lady Bobcats started district play last week with a pair of wins.

The Lady Bobcats beat Ethel 59-41 and Nanih Waiya 57-29. The Bobcats split their first two games, beating Ethel 40-26 and falling to Nanih Waiya 47-42.

Sebastopol will travel to McAdams on Tuesday and host Noxapater on Friday.

Last week felt like I should have been working in the garden, flying a kite, or wade fishing for crappie. Other than the two weeks of “seasonal” cold weather we experienced, it has been one of the mildest winters on record. Doves are already cooing, frogs are croaking, and turtles are sunning themselves on logs in ponds and creeks.

Union Basketball: Jackets Fall to Quitman

Union only had one game scheduled last week and lost both contests.

The Union girls lost 68-8 to Quitman while the Union boys lost 74-44.

Union will return to action this week as they host Pisgah on Tuesday and St. Andrew’s on Friday.
