Newton County Swim Team Shines

Newton County High School swimming began its season on a high note at the Vicksburg/Warren Central Fun in the Sun Invitational on Aug. 24. Traditionally, the team aims to qualify for the North State Championships and measure up against mid-level teams.

VOLLEYBALL: Newton County Rolls, Lake to host Newton

Newton County picked up two big wins last week on the volleyball courts.

The Lady Cougars beat Class 6A Neshoba Central 3-1 and rival Union 3-2 in a five-set tiebreaker to improve to 17-1-1 on the season.

SOFTBALL: Lady Generals Split Games Behind Pitching Performances

The Newton County Academy Lady Generals split a pair of games last week.

The Lady Cougars got some stellar pitching from Sydnee Cosgrove in both games last week.

Cosgrove pitched a two-hit shutout in a 2-0 win over Sylva-Bay on Monday and then lost 4-2 to Lamar Christian on Tuesday.
