BASKETBALL: Bobcat teams sweep JZ George, fall to Forest in tournament

The Sebastopol Bobcats opened up division 4-2A play last week with a sweep.

Sebastopol took two games from J.Z. George as the Lady Bobcats won 46-16 and the Bobcats took a 58-44 win.

BASKETBALL: Lake boys come up short in Scott County championship game

The Lake Hornets made the finals of the Scott County Tournament but fell to Morton in the finals.

The Hornets beat rival Scott Central 50-47 in the semifinals but then fell 56-44 to Morton on Saturday night in the tournament finals.

BASKETBALL: Newton falls on road against rival Bay Springs

The Newton basketball teams split a pair of games last week as they opened region play.

Both teams swept Scott Central as the Lady Tigers won 36-25 and Tigers took a 54-46 win.

But both teams lost on Friday to rival Bay Springs as the Lady Tigers fell 56-49 and Tigers lost 46-38.

Basketball: County teams fall to tough competition

It was a rough week for the Newton County basketball teams as they returned from the Christmas break with a pair or losses.

The Lady Cougars fell 61-51 to Leake Central and 55-20 to Choctaw Central. The boys also dropped a pair of tough games, falling 76-73 to Leake Central and 67-54 to Choctaw Central.
