Basketball: Hornet teams struggle against Northeast Lauderdale

It was a rough week for the Lake basketball teams as both teams lost two games each.

The Lady Hornets lost 36-33 to Newton County and then fell 57-43 to Northeast Lauderdale.

The Hornets fell 74-64 to Newton County and then fell 85-44 to Northeast Lauderdale.

The Lady Warriors of East Central Community College lost their first game of the season at home against the visiting Lawson State Cougars by a score of 59-52. The loss drops the Warriors to 9-1 in the early 23-24 basketball season.

SOCCER: NC girls pick up 2 wins

The Newton County girls picked up three shutout wins last week, beating Enterprise, Northeast Lauderdale and Clarkdale.

“The girls’ had a tough game versus Northeast Lauderdale that went into double overtime,” coach Sara Thompson said. “I was glad to see the fight our girls showed to pull out the win.”

Basketball: Yellowjacket teams pick up victories

Both Union basketball teams managed to pick up a win this past week.

The Lady Yellowjackets hammered West Lauderdale 65-37 but fell 57-54 to Nanih Waiya on Thursday.

The Yellowjackets took a tight 48-46 win over Nanih Waiya but lost 69-36 to West Lauderdale.
