Girls Basketball: Lady Generals tip off season with wins

The Newton County Academy Lady Generals kicked off the basketball season last week with a pair of wins.

The Lady Generals grabbed a 52-24 win over the Meridian Flyers and then beat Laurel Homeschool 44-42.

NCA will return to action this week as they play at Kemper on Tuesday and at Benton on Thursday.

Football: Hornets suffer heartbreak again

As the old saying goes, if it wasn’t for bad luck, the Lake football team wouldn’t have any luck at all.

Lake got stopped at the goal line on the last play of the game on Friday night as Loyd Star held on to take a 21-20 win over the Hornets in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs.
