Baseball: Lake heads to playoffs after 1-2 week

The Lake baseball team lost two out of three games to finish the regular season last week.

The Hornets dropped a tough 7-6 decision to rival Scott Central on Monday and then bounced back to beat Union 10-0 on Tuesday. Lake then dropped a 13-4 decision to Southeast Lauderdale on Thursday to finish the regular season.

Tennis: Class 4A playoffs-County falls in South State finals

The Newton County tennis team saw one part of its season come to an end in the Class 4A South State finals.

The Cougars fell to Stone County 5-2 to end their run in the Class 4A state tournament.

Lady ‘Jacket bats come alive in last 2 games

Despite a 15-strikeout effort by pitcher Alanee Wheeler, Union dropped its playoff opener to Jefferson Davis County.

But the Lady Yellowjackets responded with a pair of nine-run wins, beating the Lady Jaguars 11-2 on Saturday and 10-1 on Monday.
