POWERLIFTING: County finishes fifth overall in girls

The Newton County girls powerlifting team recently competed in the Class 4A state powerlifting meet.

The Lady Cougars finished fifth overall in the state with 18 total team points while South Pontotoc and Bay High tied for first with 29 points. Corinth and Quitman finished tied for second with 28 points apiece.

Softball: Lady Cougars no-hit Harrison Central

Newton County got in one game last week and got their money’s worth.

The Lady Cougars got a combined no-hitter from Shae HJimmie and Mandarie Leach in a 6-1 win over Harrison Central on Friday.

football: Union’s McDonald signs with Missouri Valley College football program

Union’s football team has another 2022 senior that will be continuing his career in college next year.

Offensive lineman Dayton McDonald signed recently with Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Mo. The private liberal arts college competes in NAIA football.
