Newton County football coach Bobby Bass intentionally wanted to make his non-division schedule tougher.
That scheduling paid dividends last week when the Cougars opened Division 5-4A play with a 40-7 win over Richland.
The Cougars improve to 2-4 on the season and hosted Mendenhall on Thursday in a key division contest.
