Both Union basketball teams advanced out of the Division 4-2A tournament last week as No. 4 seeds after both teams lost to Scott Central in the consolation games on Friday.
The Lady Jackets dropped a tough 38-36 decision to the Lady Rebels while the Jackets fell 67-64 to the Rebels.
The Lady Jackets are now 17-13 on the season and have lost three out of their last four games. They will have their hands full in the opening round of the Class 2A playoffs as they hit the road to Leland on Monday to take on the 28-1 Lady Cubs.
The Yellowjackets are now 20-7 on the season and have also lost four out its last five games and will travel to Coahoma County on Tuesday and take on the 26-2 Red Panthers.
Scott Central girls 38, Union 36
In a back and forth game, Scott Central held on in the final frame to take a two-point win over the Lady Yellowjackets on Friday at Lake.
Scott Central led 13-9 at the end of the first and Union returned the favor in the second period to tie the score at 22-22 at the half. Scott Central outscored Union 11-3 in the third to take a 33-25 lead into the fourth. Union outscored Scott Central 11-5 in the fourth but couldn’t overcome the deficit.
Eryanna Mason had a big night for Union with 23 points.
Scott Central boys 67, Union 64
In a hotly contested game, the Rebels were able to hold on in the fourth period to take a three-point win over the Yellowjackets.
Union led 15-10 at the end of the first period before Scott Central outscored the Jackets 30-17 in the second to lead 40-32 at the half. Union cut into the lead in the third, outscoring Scott Central 15-10 and trailed 50-47 going into the fourth, where each team scored 17 points.
J.T. Vance led Union with 20 points while P.J. Gage had 17 points and Jamarcus Jones added 12 points.
