It was more of the same for the Newton County Cougars this past week as West Lauderdale took a 44-0 on Friday night.
Newton County falls to 1-9 on the season and will host Northeast Jones in the season finale on Friday night.
For coach Gene Mitchell, it was just another in the long line of frustrating losses for the Cougars.
“We just didn’t show up,” Mitchell said. “It was just the same old, same old. We did not execute on offense. There was a lot of poor tackling on defense and a lot of poor alignment on defense. They just whipped us. It’s not much to say, just what it has been the last few weeks.”
The game was a mismatch from the beginning as West Lauderdale outgained Newton County 415-17 and jumped out to a 23-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Knights added two scores in the second quarter and led 37-0 at the half. They added a third-quarter touchdown for the final margin.

Meanwhile, Newton County struggled on offense with 17 yards of total offense with 6 yards passing and 11 rushing.
