Golf just seems to run strong in the Ogletree family.
Union’s Eric Ogletree recently signed with Meridian Community College where he will play on the golf team. He is the younger brother of Andy Ogletree, who just finished up his sophomore year at Georgia Tech.
Union golf coach Brad Breland isn’t surprised that Ogletree got an opportunity to play at the next level.
“He has matured a lot and has some more to do,” Breland said. “He has a lot of tools. He hits the ball a long way to weigh just 120 pounds. If he can get the mental part of his game in line and play on an even keel, I think he will be fine at Meridian. He’s a really gifted ball striker and putts well.”
Breland hopes that MCC is an opportunity for Ogletree to blaze his own trail.
“Obviously, playing the same sport, he gets a lot of comparisons to Andy,” Breland said. “But he’s a good golfer in his own right. I think he can do exceptionally well at Meridian. I’m hoping he can go over there and carve out his own niche.”
Ogletree was a member of the 2016 Class 2A State championship golf team at Union as a sophomore.
“He had a good year,” Breland said. “He had some good days and he had some bad days. One bad shot or one bad hole an it would snowball for him or he could get rolling the other way. It was all about confidence for him.”
