The Lake Hornets opened up the regular season by splitting a pair of games on a soggy field on Saturday.
Lake opened up with an 8-2 win over rival Forest and then followed up with a 10-4 loss to Morton.
Lake has a full slate of games this week as they are scheduled to travel to Pisgah on Tuesday. The Hornets will travel to Noxapater on Thursday and finish out the week by hosting Pelahatchie on Friday.
Lake 8, Forest 2
The Hornets pulled away in the late to take a six-run win over the Bearcats on Saturday to open the season.
Lake scored one in the first and two in the third and led 3-0 through four innings. Forest scored its two runs in the fifth to cut the lead to 3-2. But Lake scored one in the fifth and finished with four runs in the sixth to take the win.
Lake outhit Forest 6-3 and took advantage of six walks. Will Geter was 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs. Logan Palmer doubled and scored two runs. Noah Thornton also doubled. Brady McGee walked twice and scored four runs.
McGee started on the mound and pitched five innings and gave up two runs on three hits. striking out six. Logan Palmer pitched the last two innings and struck out two to pick up the save.
Morton 10, Lake 7
After a big first inning, the Hornets struggled at the plate as the Panthers pulled away to take a three-run win on Saturday.
Lake led 3-2 at the end of the first period before Morton score one in the third four in the fourth and three in the fifth. Lake added another run in the fourth inning. Lake added three runs in the seventh for the final margin.
Morton outhit Lake 6-5 in the contest but the Hornets committed six errors. Logan Palmer led Lake at the plate, going 2-for-3. Noah Thornton had two RBIs. Nathon Lott singled and scored a run. Will Geter also had a single.
Jacob Lanier pitched four innings for Lake, giving up seven runs on three hits, striking out six. Kenny Ray Hanna gave up three runs. Nathan Lott pitched one inning and Riley Bell pitched the final two innings. Lott struck out two. Bell struck out three.
