The Newton County Academy Lady Generals continued to struggle inside district play as they dropped a pair of games this past week to a pair of Class AA powerhouses.
On Monday, the Lady Generals lost 6-1 to Brookhaven and then followed that up with a 5-2 loss to Clinton Christian.
NCA will return to action this week as they are scheduled to host rival Sylva Bay on Tuesday and will play at Kemper Academy on Saturday. The Lady Generals will then play at Sylva Bay on Monday, Sept. 10.
Brookhaven 6, NCA 1
The Lady Generals struggled at the plate as they only managed six hits in a five-run loss on the road at Brookhaven on Monday.
Brookhaven scored two in the second and four in the fifth inning. NCA scored its only run in the seventh inning.
NCA only had three hits in the contest as Abbie McGee singled and scored. She scored on a groundout by Marla Graham. Kaleigh Cosgrove also had a single for NCA.
Taylor Evans pitched six innings and gave up six runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out six.
Clinton Christian 5, NCA 2
The Lady Generals grabbed an early lead but Clinton Christian fought back late to take a three-run district win on Tuesday.
NCA scored one run in the first to go up 1-0 before Clinton tied it at 1-1 in the fourth. Clinton added to its lead in the fifth and sixth with a pair of runs. NCA added a run in the seventh for the final margin.
NCA had five hits in the contest as Kelli Hollingsworth was 2-for-3 with a double. Kaleigh Cosgrove singled and scored a run while Jordan Russell singled and drove in a run. Marla Graham also had a single while Taylor Evans walked twice and scored a run.
Evans got the start on the mound and pitched six innings as she gave up five runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out two.
