The Union Yellowjackets won two out of three games last week, including a doubleheader sweep of Bay Springs to open Division 4-2A play.
Union beat Bay Spring 10-4 and 15-5 on Thursday before losing a 14-13 game to Leake Central on Saturday.
“We were happy to get two more wins this week,” Union coach Dustin Hamrick said. “We should've gotten all three games as W's, but we didn’t play good enough defense to win Saturday. The Leake Central game was just back and forth the whole game. They got the last at-bat and took advantage of it after we took the lead again in the seventh.
“Offensively, we have performed pretty well this week and we're continuing to improve some on the mound. Saturday was the first game we haven't played good defense, so hopefully we can correct those things and get back to winning this week during Spring Break. Our guys are playing hard and we have a lot of guys contributing and I'm proud of their efforts.”
Union will return to play on Monday as they play Sylva Bay at the Stringer Tournament at 3 p.m. The Jackets will then play Sebastopol at Forest on Tuesday at 5 p.m. Union will finish off the week on Friday as they play at Quitman in a 1 p.m. contest.
