Three Newton County Academy players have made the MAIS Class A/AA All-star football game.
Making the game are seniors Lincoln Jordan, Ethan McDill and Jace Arthur.
Jordan makes the team after a stellar year for the Generals. Jordan rushed for 1,248 yards on 193 carries with eight touchdowns to lead the offense. On defense Jordan had 35 tackles, one interception and one fumble return for a touchdown. Jordan was also a Newton County Appeal Elite 11 selection.
“He was our go-to back all year long,” NCA coach Rob Roberts said. “He had over 1,200 yards and ran the ball really well for us all year long. He also played corner on defense and got everybody else’s best receiver. He has played since the ninth grade but he was our go-to guy this year. He had a really good season."
Joining Jordan will be another Elite 11 selection in Ethan McDill, who played several positions on the offensive line and also handled the placekicking duties for the Generals. On defense, McDill had 48 tackles and two sacks.
“Ethan lost about 40-50 pound this summer and played a lot of positions for us,” Roberts said. “He played offensive tackle and tight end. At the end of the year, I even put him in the backfield. He’s a really good athlete. He did all of our kicking and extra point. He will play either offensive or defensive line in the game but is versatile enough that you could play him at multiple positions.”
Senior Jace Arthur, a 5-foot-11, 220-pound lineman also made the squad. He had 41 tackles and three sacks on defense.
“He made it as a lineman,” Roberts said. “He was real solid for us all year. He had to play tackle when Ethan got hurt but also played some fullback. He had about 80 yards against Sylva Bay in the playoffs. He played defensive end and tackles on defense.”
The game will be played on Friday at Jackson Prep. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
