The postseason honors keep on coming for Newton County Academy’s Kemp Alderman.
The junior right-hander finished off a week where he was named the MAIS Class AA Player of the year, the Premier Preps of East Mississippi Player of the year for baseball and a first-team all-state selection by the Clarion-Ledger.
Alderman was also selected to the Premier Preps football team.
Alderman, an Ole Miss commitment, hit .569 as he led the Generals to the Class AA semifinals. He hit 12 home runs and had 41 RBIs, despite drawing 48 walks, most of which were intentional. On the mound, Alderman was 8-3 for the Generals with a 2.83 ERA with 90 strikeouts.
Also making the Premier Preps baseball team was Union’s Jaylon Buckley. The sophomore hit .403 for the Yellowjackets with 30 RBIs and was 8-2 on the mound with a 1.83 ERA with 90 strikeouts.
Basketball
Newton County was well represented on the Premier Preps basketball teams. On the girls side, Newton’s Nia McCalphia and Myja McNichols were named to the 11-person team along with Union’s Ansley Rigby. Union coach Perry Fletcher was named Co-Coach of the Year for girls basketball after guiding the Lady Tigers to the Class 2A state championship.
On the boys side, Newton’s Jamarian Pace and Deshaun Watts were named to the team along with Union’s J.T. Vance.
Softball
After winning the school’s 10th fast-pitch state championship, Newton County was honored for their year. Newton County coach Justin Chaney was named the Premier Preps Coach of the Year while Shelby Anderson and Brittany Thomas were two of the 11 players selected.

• Union’s Jacob Moore was named to the Premier Preps offense. Moore is a sophomore offensive lineman and was also a state champion powerlifter for the Yellowjackets.
• In soccer, three Newton County’s Brynn Boutwell and Olivia Clark were selected to the girls team while Jonathan Boudreaux was selected to the boys team.
