The Newton County Academy basketball teams dropped a pair of games to finish out the Lamar Tournament last week.
The Lady Generals lost a 50-48 heartbreaker to Patrician Academy while the Generals lost 41-31 to Montgomery East on Monday. a
NCA will return to action on Tuesday as they travel to Columbus Christian in a district contest. NCA will then travel to Carroll on Friday to round out the week.
Patrician Academy 50, NCA 48
The Lady Generals dropped their third game in the Lamar Tournament on Monday as they fell by two to Patrician Academy.
Patrician led 16-10 at the end of the first but NCA bounced back in the second, outscoring the Lady Saints 13-6 to take a 23-22 lead at the half. Patrician outscored NCA 14-13 in the third to tie the game at 36-36 going into the fourth. Patrician took the fourth period 14-12 to take the win.
Jordan Russell had a big game for NCA with 14 points and 14 rebounds while Cayden Alexander had 13 points and six rebounds.
Montgomery East 41, NCA 31
The Generals started slow and dropped a 10-point decision to Montgomery East on Monday at the Lamar Tournament.
Montgomery led 14-3 at the end of the first and 27-17 at the half. NCA closed the margin in the by outscoring Montgomery 10-5 to cut the lead to 32-27.
Riley Boswell led NCA with 11 points while Kemp Alderman had seven points and five rebounds. Both Boswell and Alderman were named to the all-tournament team.
