The Newton County Academy Lady Generals finished as the No. 3 seed in last week’s District 2-AA tournament.
The Lady Generals lost 46-40 to Hebron Christian and then beat Kemper Academy 54-32. The Generals lost 58-48 to Columbus Christian in overtime on Tuesday and then 43-39 to Hebron on Thursday.
The NCA girls finished as the No. 3 seed in District 2-AA and will take on Marvell Academy on Wednesday at 5:15 p.m. at Columbus Christian while the Generals will play Rossville Christian on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
Hebron girls 46, NCA 40
The Lady Eagles took a six-point win over the Lady Generals in the district tournament semifinals on Tuesday.
Hebron led 9-7 at the end of the first and 19-15 at the half. NCA outscored Hebron 12-11 in the third to cut the lead to 30-27 going to the third. But the Lady Eagles outscored the Lady Generals 16-13 in the fourth to take the win.
Asten Russell led NCA with 13 points while Lilly Hollingsworth pulled down nine rebounds.
NCA girls 54, Kemper 32
The Lady Generals finished third in the district play as they took a 22-point win over the Rams on Thursday.
NCA outscored Kemper 10-4 in the first period and led 28-13 at the half. The Lady Generals put the game away in the third, outscoring Kemper 14-3 in the third to lead 42-16 going to the fourth. Kemper took the fourth 16-12 for the final margin.
Jordan Russell had a big game for the Lady Generals with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Ashten Russell also had 15 points in the win.
Columbus Christian boys 58, NCA 48
The Rams needed overtime to pull out a 10-point win over the Generals to open the boys tournament on Tuesday.
NCA jumped out to a 15-8 lead and held a 20-19 lead at the half. Columbus outscored NCA 12-11 I the third to tie the game at 31-31 going to the fourth where each team scored 16 points. But the Rams ran away with the game in the overtime period, outscoring the Generals 11-1 to take the win.
Riley Boswell led NCA with 20 points while Kemp Alderman had 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Hebron boys 43, NCA 39
The Generals could hold onto a first-period lead as the Eagles took a four-point win over the Generals.
NCA led 17-12 at the end of the first period but Hebron outscored the Generals 7-2 in the second to tie the game at 19-19 at the half. Hebron outscored NCA 13-10 in third and held on to take the win in the fourth.
Austin Upton led NCA with 11 points and 10 rebounds while Zander Meeks also had 11 points. Riley Boswell also chipped in 10 points.
