Newton County Academy’s basketball season came to an end last week as both teams lost their opening round games in the North AA Tournament.
The Generals lost 62-44 to Rossville while the Lady Generals lost 62-30 to Marvell Academy.
Rossville boys 62, NCA 44
The Wolves used strong finishes to each half and beat the Generals by 18 on Tuesday.
NCA led 9-8 at the end of the first before Rossville outscored the Generals 16-7 in the second to lead 24-16 at the half. Rossville outscored NCA 21-20 in the third and finished by outscoring the Generals 16-8 to take the win.
Riley Boswell led NCA with 26 points and nine rebounds.
Marvell girls 62, NCA 30
After a tight first half, the Lady Eagles used a big second half to take a 32-point win over the Lady Generals on Tuesday.
Each team scored 11 points in the first period and Marvell led 24-21 at the half. But the Lady Eagles pulled away in the second half, outscoring NCA 23-5 in the third and 15-4 in the fourth.
Sarah Beth Bounds led NCA with 15 points and seven rebounds.
