It was a rough week on the hardwoods for the Newton County Academy basketball teams.
Both NCA teams suffered a pair of double-digit losses last week as they were swept by Columbus Christian and Carroll Academy.
NCA returns to action this week as they travel to Hebron on Tuesday and will host Kemper Academy on Friday in a pair of district contest.
Columbus Christian girls 59,
NCA 49
The Lady Rams finished with a big fourth period to take a 10-point win over the Lady Generals on Tuesday.
Columbus led 9-5 at the end of the first and 25-22 at the half. The Lady Generals outscored Columbus 15-11 in the third to take a 37-36 lead into the fourth. The Lady Rams then outscored NCA 23-12 in the fourth to take the win.
Lilly Hollingsworth led NCA with 10 points and six rebounds while Asten Russell had nine points and six rebounds. Cayden Alexander also had nine points and three rebounds.
Columbus Christian boys 65,
NCA 31
The Rams started quick and cruised to a 34-point win over the Generals.
Columbus started quick as they outscored NCA 26-8 in the first and led 34-24 at the half. Columbus put the game away in the third, outscoring NCA 26-3 to lead 60-27 going into the fourth.
Kemp Alderman led NCA with 14 points and nine rebounds.
Carroll girls 49, NCA 31
The Lady Rebels jumped out to a 10-point win and held that margin to take an 18-point win over the Lady Generals on Friday.
NCA started quick and led 14-4 at the end of the first and 22-8 at the half. Carroll outscored NCA 12-10 in the third while each team scored 15 points in the fourth.
Belle Hollingsworth led NCA with eight points while Asten Russell had seven points and three rebounds. Lilly Hollingsworth also pulled down seven rebounds.
Carroll boys 62, NCA 31
The Rebels used a steady supply of offense as they took a 31-point win over the Generals.
Carroll jumped out to a quick 14-2 lead at the end of the first and led 29-10 at the half. NCA outscored Carroll 14-13 in the third but the Rebels took fourth period 20-7 for the final margin.
Austin Upton led NCA with eight points.
